The process
How Your Benchtop Replacement Works
Usually within 48 hours from a few photos and basic measurements.
- 1
Select materials and items
Choose your preferred benchtop material and any appliances or PC items you want to change, such as the sink, tap or cooktop. We can advise on suitability before you purchase them.
Your part: Tell us what you want to keep or change.
- 2
Confirm the project details
After the initial estimate suits you, we confirm the site, cabinetry condition, surfaces, inclusions and required trades before proceeding.
Your part: Make sure your new appliance and fixture model details are available.
- 3
Professional measure and template
The stonemason professionally measures and templates the new benchtop while your existing benchtop is still installed.
Your part: Keep the kitchen accessible for the appointment.
- 4
Manufacture
The specialist fabricator manufactures the new surface to the template, including the required joins, edges and cutouts. This is normally around three weeks.
Your part: You can keep using your existing kitchen during most of this period.
- 5
Keep using your kitchen
Your existing kitchen and benchtop remain in place and usable while the new benchtop is made, apart from the short replacement window.
Your part: Continue using the kitchen as normal until the scheduled removal.
- 6
Removal immediately before installation
We remove and dispose of the existing benchtop and, where included, the splashback. This is normally done the day before installation.
Your part: Clear the benchtop and cupboards beneath the sink and cooktop.
- 7
Stonemason installation
Your new benchtop is professionally measured and installed by the specialist stonemason, with Canberra Benchtop Replacements coordinating the overall project.
Your part: Keep the kitchen clear and accessible.
- 8
Trade connections and finishing
Licensed plumbing and electrical work, tiling and minor plaster or gyprock repairs are coordinated where applicable.
Your part: Check the completed work and connections.
Who does what
Canberra Benchtop Replacements manages your project and is your single point of contact. Measuring, templating, manufacture and installation of stone, mineral and porcelain surfaces are carried out by the specialist stonemason. Plumbing, electrical and gas work is done by appropriately licensed trades. We coordinate these services where included.
How long will I be without a kitchen?
Your existing benchtop normally remains installed while the new one is manufactured, which is usually around three weeks. Removal is normally the day before installation, so the period without a usable benchtop is concentrated around the changeover and finishing work.
