Canberra Benchtop Replacements

Your Benchtop Selection Guide · Canberra & ACT

Benchtop Colours & Materials

Choosing a new benchtop can be one of the hardest parts of updating a kitchen. Our Benchtop Selection Guide helps you compare materials, understand relative prices, explore brands and shortlist colours while we prepare your estimate. You don't need to make a final decision before sending your enquiry.

Which Benchtop Material Is Right for You?

Choosing engineered stone alternatives in Canberra? For new replacements, we discuss currently compliant mineral and recycled surfaces—not prohibited engineered-stone products.

Mineral / Engineered Surfaces

Current compliant mineral and recycled surfaces offer stone-style colours and patterns, from understated finishes to more expressive designs.

Best for: Most existing kitchen benchtop replacements

  • A broad choice of colours and patterns
  • A more consistent look than natural stone
  • Entry-level through premium designs

Consider: Composition, care and performance vary by product. We confirm the suitability of the current range, not just its colour.

Natural Stone

Granite, quartzite and marble each bring their own natural character. Every slab is different, so the actual stone matters as much as the colour name.

Best for: A unique, premium natural finish

  • Individual variation and movement
  • Natural depth and character
  • A choice of different stone types

Consider: Heat resistance, porosity, sealing and care depend on the stone. Marble in particular needs careful suitability advice.

Porcelain

A manufactured surface worth exploring for a contemporary kitchen, a slim-looking finish or a dramatic stone-inspired design.

Best for: Premium contemporary replacements

  • Contemporary and stone-inspired designs
  • Generally strong heat and stain resistance
  • Can coordinate with a new splashback

Consider: Product specifications and edge details matter. Specialised fabrication, cut-outs and installation can affect the complete project price.

Laminate

A familiar non-stone option with a wide design choice, suited to straightforward replacements in many existing kitchens.

Best for: Simple replacements and selected lower-cost projects

  • A wide choice of designs
  • Lightweight compared with stone
  • A practical option for suitable existing kitchens

Consider: Removal, plumbing and other project costs still apply. The complete price difference from entry-level mineral surfaces may be smaller than the material price alone suggests.

What Do the $ Symbols Mean?

Luxury / specialised

These symbols show general relative material cost / positioning only — not installed project prices or $/m² rates. Complete project pricing also depends on kitchen size, layout, joins, slab utilisation, thickness and edge detail, waterfall ends, sink and cooktop cut-outs, splashbacks, removal and disposal, access, plumbing, electrical, tiling, fabrication and installation requirements.

Laminate material can be cheaper, but labour, removal and trade costs can sometimes reduce the overall saving on a complete replacement compared with an entry-level mineral surface.

Granite, quartzite and marble are different natural materials with different properties. Suitability, care and any sealing requirements need to be considered for the individual stone.
