Canberra Benchtop Replacements

Benchtop Replacements Canberra

Replace Your Benchtop. Keep Your Kitchen.

Give your existing kitchen a completely new look without the cost, disruption or waste of replacing perfectly good cabinetry.

For ACT kitchens with cabinetry worth retaining, we coordinate the replacement, specialist stonemason and required finishing trades. One point of contact.

Photos + rough measurements are enough to get started.

  • 20+ years kitchen & cabinetmaking experience
  • Stone, mineral & porcelain surfaces
  • Old benchtop removed where included
  • Trades coordinated for you

Keep using your kitchen while your new benchtop is being made.

The stonemason can usually measure while your existing benchtop is still in place. Your old benchtop normally stays in use during manufacture and is removed immediately before the new benchtop is installed.

Love your kitchen layout but hate the benchtop?

Plenty of Canberra kitchens have cabinets that are still solid, square and perfectly usable. What dates them is the surface: a chipped laminate top, a stained tiled splashback, a colour that was popular twenty years ago.

You don't necessarily need a new kitchen. A new benchtop, and ideally a new splashback, changes how the whole room looks while keeping the cabinets, the layout and most of your appliances exactly where they are.

Materials

Surfaces that suit a replacement

Stone & mineral surfaces

Our main recommendation for most replacements. Current compliant mineral surfaces give a clean stone look with a wide choice of colours, and good-value builder ranges keep the cost sensible.

Porcelain & sintered surfaces

Thin, dense and highly resistant to heat and staining. A strong option for splashbacks and for benchtops where you want a particular look.

What about laminate?

Laminate is available. The material is cheaper, but on a replacement job the removal, manufacture and installation work is similar, so the installed price can end up closer to an entry-level 20 mm stone or mineral surface than people expect. Compare the complete installed price, not the material price alone.

Benchtop + splashback

Replace both for the biggest change

The benchtop and splashback are the two surfaces your eye goes to first. Replacing both together, often in the same material, removes old tiles and grout lines and makes an older kitchen look current, while the cabinetry stays as it is.

Doing the benchtop and splashback as one coordinated project allows the removal, new benchtop and finishing work to be planned together rather than organising separate projects later.

Cost

What does a benchtop replacement cost?

Every kitchen is different, so the honest answer is that it depends on a handful of specific things. These are the ones that move the price most.

  • Size of the benchtop
  • Material and colour
  • Number of slabs or sheets
  • Cutouts
  • Sink type
  • Cooktop
  • Edge profile
  • Removal of the existing benchtop
  • Splashback
  • Access to the kitchen
  • Plumbing and electrical requirements

Questions

Benchtop replacement FAQs

Can you replace a benchtop without replacing the cabinets?

Yes. That's the whole idea of what we do. If your cabinets are structurally sound and level, the new benchtop is templated to sit on your existing cabinetry. We'll check the condition of the cabinets from your photos and again at the assessment.

Can you remove and dispose of my existing benchtop?

Yes. We can remove and dispose of existing laminate and stone benchtops, and tiled benchtops where appropriate. Historical engineered-stone benchtops may be removed using the required safe process; prohibited products are not offered as new surfaces.

Can you replace the splashback as well?

Yes. We can remove tiled and other suitable splashbacks, coordinate new slab or tiled splashbacks, and arrange minor wall repairs where required. Splashback-only replacement is also available.

What happens to my sink?

Your existing sink can often be reused if it's in good condition and suits the new benchtop. Many people take the opportunity to change to an undermount sink. Either way, the sink cutout is made to suit the sink you choose.

What happens to my cooktop?

The cooktop is removed before the old benchtop comes out and reinstalled once the new surface is in. If you're changing to a new cooktop, let us know the model so the cutout can be made to suit.

Do I need a plumber?

Sinks and taps need to be disconnected and reconnected by a licensed plumber, and some cooktops need a licensed electrician or gasfitter. We can coordinate these trades as part of your project so you don't have to organise them yourself.

How long does a benchtop replacement take?

Manufacture is normally around three weeks after professional templating. Your existing benchtop usually stays installed and usable during most of that time. Removal is normally the day before the stonemason installs the new benchtop.

Can the stonemason measure while my existing benchtop is installed?

Yes. The stonemason normally measures and templates the new benchtop while the existing one is still in place, allowing you to keep using the kitchen during manufacture.

Do you offer laminate benchtops?

Yes, laminate is available. On a replacement job the installed price of laminate can sometimes be closer to an entry-level 20 mm stone or mineral surface than people expect, so we recommend comparing both installed prices.

Is stone much more expensive than laminate?

The material itself usually costs more, but material is only part of the price. Removal, manufacture and installation labour apply to both, so the gap in the final installed price may be smaller than you expect, depending on the project.

Can I supply my own sink and tap?

Usually, yes. Let us know the make and model before the benchtop is templated so the cutout and tap hole are made correctly.

Do you service Queanbeyan?

No. We currently service the ACT only.
